Welcome

MGAL members participate in an MGAL sponsored workshop

The Memphis/Germantown Art League is an association of visual artists and those interested in supporting and encouraging the work of these artists. Its purpose is to aid both amateur and professional artists in their personal and collective growth and to enrich the community with their participation in art activities of the area.

The MGAL strives to serve the public by taking original fine art to the adults and young people through community exhibits. By sponsoring classes, workshops, and demonstrations led by accomplished artists the League helps students of all ages and skill levels to develop their artistic talents through the traditional methods of the masters, as well as the exploration of new techniques.

Through the efforts of the founders and all the members who have contributed to the growth of the organization, the Memphis/Germantown Art League is now the largest association of visual artists in this region.

Organized on August 6, 1976 as the Germantown Art League the group was chartered on June 22, 1977 as a non-profit Tennessee cooperation. In May 1988, the organization's name was changed to Memphis/Germantown Art League in recognition of the larger geographical area of its members. The League depends on all its members to serve as volunteers on its board.
