Our History

Organized on August 16, 1976, as the Germantown Art League, the group was chartered on June 22, 1977, as a nonprofit Tennessee corporation. In May 1988, the organization's name was changed to Memphis/Germantown Art League in recognition of the wider geographical distribution of its members. Today MGAL’s membership encompasses the mid-south area including nearby communities in Mississippi, Arkansas and western Tennessee. The League depends on all its members as volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors and committees and to assist in the work of the organization.

Important Notices

The Star Artist Exhibition will be at the Memphis Jewish Community Center's Shainberg Gallery March 4 - 30. The entry deadline is February 20. To be eligible to enter you must have achieved Star Artist status (Silver, Gold, or Platinum) by the entry deadline. The program explanation is on pages 7-8 in your current yearbook. If you have achieved the required 5 points for silver status or enough points for a higher level, don't wait until the last minute to send the information to Sally Papich, Star Artist Review Coordinator, 713 Locust Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72401-7013 or sally.papich@ymail.com.
