Our History

Organized on August 16, 1976, as the Germantown Art League, the group was chartered on June 22, 1977, as a nonprofit Tennessee corporation. In May 1988, the organization's name was changed to Memphis/Germantown Art League in recognition of the wider geographical distribution of its members. Today MGAL’s membership encompasses the mid-south area including nearby communities in Mississippi, Arkansas and western Tennessee. The League depends on all its members as volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors and committees and to assist in the work of the organization.

Important Notices

WKNO Gallery Ten Ninety One will be hosting MGAL's National Juried Exhibition from August 6 - August 28, 2015. The exhibition will feature some of the best work of 65 extremely talented artists from around the United States. Winners will be chosen by Paul Jackson AWS, NWS, the Wandering Watercolorist. Paul received his MFA in 1992 and has since relentlessly pursued his creative dreams. He has received top honors in national and international competitions and contributed his art to a vast library of magazines and books. He shares his talent conducting workshops all over the world. The Awards Reception for the Exhibition will be held at WKNO Gallery Ten Ninety One, 7151 Cherry Farms Road, Cordova, TN from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
