Our History

Organized on August 16, 1976, as the Germantown Art League, the group was chartered on June 22, 1977, as a nonprofit Tennessee corporation. In May 1988, the organization's name was changed to Memphis/Germantown Art League in recognition of the wider geographical distribution of its members. Today MGAL’s membership encompasses the mid-south area including nearby communities in Mississippi, Arkansas and western Tennessee. The League depends on all its members as volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors and committees and to assist in the work of the organization.

Important Notices

The MGAL Spring Juried Exhibition will be held at the Germantown Performing Arts Center from May 2 - 27, 2015. You must be a member of MGAL and have earned at least one service point to be eligible to enter. The entry deadline is April 22. For complete details download the Prospectus from the Exhibitions page of this website. The next General Meeting will be held in conjunction with the show opening at the GPAC on Saturday, May 9, from 2 - 4 PM, followed by the Exhibition Reception from 4 -6 PM.
